National property law
Regional, Town and Country Planning Act [Chapter 29:12]
A practical guide to Zimbabwe's main planning statute, including plans, development permission, change of use and subdivision.
In brief
This Act provides the national framework for regional plans, master plans and local plans. It also sets the legal route for development permission, subdivision and other land-use decisions that may affect a property or project.
What to look for
- Planning policy is expressed through regional, master and local plans.
- Development, subdivision and change-of-use questions must be checked against the relevant planning authority and operative plan.
- A proposal in a plan is not the same as approval for work on an individual property.
